Buying And Selling
To flip a website is no different to flipping property or stocks and shares. It is basically turning over something of value for more than it has cost you. I am by no means an expert at site flipping and have so far only written a brief post Flipping Website out lining the fact that it is a way to make money online.
A Bit More Detail
So I am back to expand slightly on this great money making opportunity. The idea behind this money making platform is to either buy websites cheaply, fix them up to improve them and then sell them for a profit or you can build websites quickly and sell them. Once you know how to build a website, it does not take long to get quick at this process and it can be done in a few hours once you get good at it.
Will It Sell
My thoughts about website flipping were that if a site is not making any money, then surely it will not sell, who would want to buy a site that is not making money. Well this is not the case, there are people that are building sites and selling them before they have even had the chance to make money, I guess some people would rather buy ready made sites than build them their selves. It is what they do with the sites when they have bought them that counts.
If you decide to buy a property with the sole aim to refurbish it and then sell it for a profit, then you would either have to have the skills of a builder or hire in the professionals to do the work for you and the cost of this would come out of the sale profit.
It is no real difference to buying and selling websites or building websites and selling them on. You will need the skills to spot a gem and change that site into that gem for resale or you will need to have the skills to build a website that is optimized for a quick sale. Although these are not necessarily hard skills to learn, they need to be learned all the same.
Easy Process
The buying or building of the websites could be seen as the easy part, even making them more attractive and ready for sale could also be seen as the easy part.
What I would see as the difficult part would be the transfer of the website to the new owner, you need to know how to transfer your domain and the contents of the website with all its plugins, settings and of course content over to the new owner without losing any of it. I know from recent experience that this is not always as straight forward as it seems ==> Lost Sites <==. The one good thing that came out of that experience though is that I did learn how not to do it.
This may also involve in transferring affiliate products and of course adsense publisher ID’s, which may sound simple, but it might not be as easy as it looks on paper. There may also be the matter of transferring an email list that has been built from the site.
In My Mind
The most simple form of flipping a website in my mind, is to build a site from scratch add some good unique content and possibly one or two affiliate products and then have a detailed plan in place that you can add some other things after the sale, such as adsense and autoresponder. These can then be added from new in the new owners name, saving the trouble of more things to transfer.
In conclusion of how to flip websites as a way of making money online, I believe that it can be done as a very successful technique of attaining a lucrative online income, but as like most ways of making money online, the process and techniques involved need to be learned fully, before jumping in and making mistakes and possibly losing money in the process.
